Water

Water shortage

Water is an important supply that every person needs in their life, it could be for drinking or for sanity needs. We need water in order to survive.  In our daily life we use a lot of water for many different things in cooking, cleaning and personal care. There is a large shortage in water supplies nowadays. The lack of clean water is one of the main sources of disease in poor countries, which leads to death. Water shortage is caused by many different ways, firstly by drought which is caused by the lack of rain. Secondly the over use of unnecessary water for example, leaving the water tap running unnecessarily, over watering the garden and having exceptionally long showers. If nothing is done about the water shortage problems there will be a major increase in deaths all over the world.

Ethiopia is a country of around 85 million people and this country has particular problems related to water shortages. Around 49 million lack safe water and 75 million have no sanitation services. In the last 20 years, Ethiopia has experienced recurring droughts followed by food shortages and famines. During times of drought, water-related diseases are rampant. Surface water sources such as springs and ponds dry up. Remaining water sources are heavily contaminated by environmental waste, such as human and animal excreta, which is washed in when it does rain. The stagnant water serves as a breeding place for mosquitoes.
In times of drought, there is often not enough water available for people to bathe regularly. As a result, community members, especially children, suffer from scabies and eye infections. During these times, in an effort to conserve water, hand-washing after defecation or before eating is rarely practiced. Diarrheal and water-related diseases are among the principle causes of death in young children. And as for other reasons behind this crisis says the Gurdian "Aid agencies say that weather in this region has become more erratic and years of war leave populations especially vulnerable". Though the country possesses a substantial amount of water resources, little has been developed for drinking water supply, hydropower, agriculture and other purposes… people have no access to improved supply usually obtain water from rivers, unprotected springs, hand-dug wells and rainwater harvesting.

Management of Ethiopian lake resources should not be left to a certain government organ alone. Both the people and the government establishments should be equally concerned. Active participation of the rural population is especially attractive in lake management. Indeed the participation of the inhabitants, who contribute to the damage of the catchments, is essential. Heavy rain in the rainy season can suddenly raise the water level of a lake, causing flooding over fields and houses at the lakeside. Since environmental awareness is a contributing factor that makes the public participate in lake management programs, it is important to raise the level of awareness of the public through appropriate public channels, including the media.
Of course, the "developing countries" are in a way fortunate in having fewer environmental problems than "developed countries," but we are not secure. We should learn valuable lessons from the problems of the industrialized countries and take the appropriate precautionary measures as soon as possible. My final remark: Now is the time to start proper management of our aquatic resources to protect them for future generations.

History of Facebook

History of Facebook

History

Facebook was founded by a man called Mark Zuckerberg who was a student at the Harvard University. The social networking website was initially launched as ‘Thefacebook’ in February 2004 and membership was restricted to students of the Harvard University only. But Six days after its launch Three Harvard students accused Zuckerberg of stealing their idea and misleading them into believing that he would help them great the website. The Three later opened a lawsuit against Zuckerberg and ended up settling for a large fee. A month later the very successful facebook expanded its membership to students in several universities across the United States and Canada. In June that year the company moved to its first headquarters in California and also received its first major investment. In 2005 the company dropped ‘The’ from its name and started using the domain Facebook.com.  The site started sending out invitations to students at high schools followed by employees of several companies.

Development

On September 26, 2006 Facebook.com officially became open to everyone aged 13 and older with a valid email address. That move would prove to be the start of something huge for the company and people all over the world as it would develop in to a worldwide company and one of the most visited websites in the world. It received a lot of attention not only from users but from some of the biggest players in world technology and in 2006 the website Yahoo made an offer of One Billion Dollars to buy facebook which Mark Zuckerberg turned down.  One year later Mr. Zuckerberg  had to find a way to make his company profitable and so he hired SheryI Sandberg who was one of the star executives at Google and knew exactly how to make a company profit from advertisements. Another key development was that Zuckerberg allowed developers to create programs such as games in order gain profit from it. All this development though wouldn’t be possible without its trustful users that in just Five years went from having a couple of thousand users to up to 800 million users.

Present

Today Facebook has over 800 Million users, that means One in Nine people in the world have or own a Facebook account. It currently has over 3000 Employees. There is also speculation as to how much the website is actually worth today with The New York Times reporting that with its involvement in the stock market and such that its value could be over 75 Billion Dollars. The website has become so important to people’s lives these days, so much that some people say they can’t imagine life without it not only because of importance to their social lives by keeping up with friends and family but also to their working lives. Today some companies arrange meetings for interviews and check profiles of people to see if they are the proper candidates. The web site has certainly become one of greatest inventions of the 21st century so far and is looking maintain its dominance in human social life.

Future center

LSS 3205                                                                         Future Center
Types of Challenges

The Future Center is a center for children of special needs. It’s a place that special children go to to get care and all sorts of education. It has a very kind and friendly staff with a lot of experience. Their main aim and goal is to help and educate a special needs child and make them adjust to all aspects in life such as helping with work at home, preparing them for school or even preparing them for jobs.

The challenge the staff and participants face is huge, it ranges from teaching the children discipline all the way to math. Teaching a special needs child isn’t an easy job due to mental reasons so its quite challenging for a teacher. Some children have a special teacher or participant assigned to them alone because of how much attention they require. Other challenges for staff include having to do with what they have because the center isn’t funded by anyone so they would have to search for what companies, organizations and the public have to offer for free.

They have achieved what they have set out to achieve at the start and that’s help out the children. They have helped children get in to normal schools and helped some of the guys find jobs. They have helped a child reach his dream of representing the U.A.E in swimming at the Olympics. They have also received a lot of recognition from the government and H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan for all their efforts in helping special needs children.

Their future goals are to expand and have more centers around the country and help as many children as possible.

It relates to cultural diversity because being special needs is physically and mentally its own culture. Some people discriminate people because of their physical appearance or because of mentally how they think which effets the way they talk.
